Naíscoil Dhún Pádraig

Naíscoil Dún Pádraig has been providing pre-school education to children from Downpatrick and the surrounding area through the medium of Irish since 1994.

With 32 places, the Naíscoil is heavily dependent on the ingenuity of its management committee and parents to raise funds to cover staff wages, equipment, maintenance and running costs.

The Naíscoil is managed by an active Board of Governors with wide experience in education (including pre-school education), school management, community development, the media, parenting, networking and planning. The staff consists of a leader and three assistants.

The curriculum is based on the concept of learning through play. Language skills are developed through stories and songs. Life skills, interpersonal skills, health awareness and physical well-being are promoted.

The project gives parents the opportunity to try bilingual education children for their children before sending them to a bunscoil.
